Horseback Riding in Australia

Boomerang Trail

Overview

This is a horseback riding vacation in Australia that will allow you to experience the beautiful and diverse landscape of Australia’s Mid North Coast, of New South Wales, astride fit and well trained horses. The Boomerang Trail is a stationary ride, returning each evening to the 60 acre farm where your hosts will make you feel right at home.

You will follow quiet narrow horse trails, 4WD tracks, fire trails and forest roads through the Comboyne State Forest experiencing pockets of rainforests, creek crossings, a historic timber railway line, eucalyptus forests and steep ridges. Combine this with rolling farmlands, a visit to a local winery and a ride along the deserted beach where the Pacific Ocean waves break for mile after mile and you have an impressive taste of Australia.

While at the farm property and out riding you will have the opportunity to see wildlife and flora unique to Australia. Wallabies, goannas, king parrots, cockatoos, and galahs are all around. The property used to be an Australian native nursery so you are spoiled by banksia trees, kangaroo paw plants, bottlebrush, lilly pilly, macadamia trees, lemon- scented eucalypt, myrtle trees, and magnolia trees, along with the colorful birds that visit them.

Accommodations are at the farm property. There is one studio style cabin with private facilities and a view over the valley. This is ideal for a couple or two singles traveling together. Alternatively the main lodge has 3 different styles of bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.
The lodge also has a large communal entertainment area for guests, to sit together and have meals and drinks in a family atmosphere. A wide veranda invites you to relax after a day’s riding and enjoy the view of the garden with native plants and trees, the large horse paddocks and the valley of rolling hills. A swimming pool invites for a swim after riding all day and is in use from September through April.

Breakfast and dinner are served at the lodge. Lunch will be served out on the trail while riding, either carried with saddle bags or brought in by a 4WD vehicle. Lunches are tasty but light so having a hearty breakfast is advised. One lunch is served at a local café (an out of pocket expense). Limited wine will be served with dinner.

The guide has a phenomenal knowledge of the area, trails, and attractions to see.  She is very knowledgeable on the local flora and fauna as well as the history of the area.  She was a fantastic guide and trip planner.  Her horses are all extremely well cared for and in excellent physical condition for the rides which were in a variety of terrains.  We had some wonderful long canters through mountains and down quiet trails.  Her facility is immaculate-both the horse and human accommodations are first class!  I would definitely recommend this ride to anyone wanting to experience the “real” look and feel of Australia.
